7 Ways to Cultivate a Morning Yoga Practice


I regularly practice yoga every Monday-Friday morning from 6am and every weekend my practice is when I can fit it in. I also practice two full one hour sessions on two separate evenings - usually Tuesday and a Friday.


See below for how to create this mindset and regime into your daily lifestyle.

  1. Plan your practice the night before - or even plan a week in advance. Download practices that you know or watch them in advance (evening before perhaps) so you are familiar with what is expected.

  2. Set your alarm 30 minutes earlier than you do now and get out of bed straight away.

  3. Wash your face and brush your teeth. If you are a planning a less rigorous practice, you may wish to take your shower and / or wash your hair in advance.

  4. Dress in clean work-out clothing and make sure you do this for every practice, washing your clothing at the end of the week.

  5. If you aren't feeling the practice that you planned to do, do something else or simply come into a gentle flow* You will still receive all the benefits from a full class.

  6. 20-30 minutes is more than enough for a morning practice and your body will certainly enjoy it.

  7. Set an intention at the end of your practice for the day. If you have time for a 5, 10 or 15 minute meditation go for it, but if not then a simple intention will do the trick. Check out HERE for how to set intentions and the benefits this can bring for your day.

Extended child's pose - inhale / exhale for 10 breaths

(+) Inhale table top, Exhale

Inhale cow pose, Exhale cat

Inhale table top, Exhale down dog

Inhale, knees down, cow pose, Exhale cat

Inhale table top, Exhale down dog REPEAT(+) x 4 (or more if you wish)

Extended child's pose - inhale / exhale for 10 breaths
